ANSI C18.3M is a safety standard for portable primary lithium batteries (including button cells). The main testing contents include:

Electrical Performance testing

  • Voltage Test: Measures the open-circuit voltage of the battery to ensure it meets the nominal voltage.

  • Capacity Test: Determines whether the actual capacity of the battery meets the nominal value through a discharge test.

  • Discharge Performance Test: Evaluates the battery's performance under various discharge conditions.

Mechanical Performance Testing

  • Impact Test: Simulates the impacts the battery may experience during transportation or use.

  • Vibration Test: Evaluates the stability of the battery in a vibrating environment.

  • Crush Test: Detects the safety of the battery when subjected to crushing.

Environmental Testing

  • High-Temperature Test: Evaluates the performance of the battery in high-temperature environments.

  • Low-Temperature Test: Evaluates the performance of the battery in low-temperature environments.

  • Temperature Cycling Test: Detects the stability of the battery under temperature variations.

Safety Testing

  • Short Circuit Test: Simulates the battery's reaction during a short circuit to ensure no hazardous events occur.

  • Overcharge Test: Evaluates the safety of the battery under overcharge conditions.

  • Forced Discharge Test: Detects the battery's behavior during a forced discharge.

Marking and Packaging Testing

  • Marking Inspection: Ensures the battery markings comply with standard requirements.

  • Packaging Test: Evaluates the protective performance of the packaging during transportation.

These tests are designed to ensure the safety and reliability of button cell batteries under normal and abnormal conditions.
