ASTM F2710 Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Commercial Cribs
ASTM F2710 is a consumer safety performance specification designed specifically for the safe use of cribs in commercial environments, such as hotels, rental properties, motels, and daycare centers.
This standard applies to standard-size cribs, non-standard-size cribs, play yards, and products with rigid or mesh side panels.
It defines performance requirements, testing methods, and labeling requirements to ensure the sleeping safety of infants and toddlers in commercial settings.
Without applying any impact force, a total vertical load shall be applied inside the crib (the load shoULd be placed on a 15.2 x 15.2 x 2 cmload distribution block) and maintained for 5 minutes.
During the test, divide the crib interior or mattress support area into four equal quadrants, and distribute the total load equally into five parts, applying one portion at the center of each quadrant and one at the center of the mattress support area.
Acceptance Criteria:
During the test, the crib shall show no structural damage, loosening of fasteners, damage to locking mechanisms, or failure of locking functionality.
Place a total load of 180 pounds (81.6 kg)evenly inside the crib, distributed in accordance with the static load test requirements.
Then, perform a static indentation testby slowly pushing the crib across a test gap until the wheels or casters stop completely and sink into the gap as much as possible.
Record the indentation depth precisely using professional measuring instruments.
Next, conduct a dynaMIC durability test, moving the crib back and forth across the test gap 250 cycles in each direction(total 500 cycles), with each cycle not exceeding 4 seconds.
Acceptance Criteria:
After the test, the crib must undergo a comprehensive inspectionto ensure no structural damage or functional failurehas occurRED.
During this test, the crib legs shall be fixed to prevent movement when the drop side is released.
A 30-pound (13.6 kg)weight shall be securely suspended from the center of the top rail of the drop side, ensuring the weight does not touch or strikethe crib body.
Then, raise the drop side close to the latch position and release it to fall freely.
Repeat this process 500 timesat a frequency of once every 3 ± 1 seconds.
Acceptance Criteria:
No structural damage, fastener loosening, locking mechanism damage, or locking failure shall occur on any commercial crib with a movable side.
- Both standard-sizeand non-standard-sizecribs must comply with all applicable labeling and warning requirements.
- Warning labels and instruction manuals must be presented in at least two languages, selected according to the intended use environment.
- Instructions for use must include recommended maintenance and inspection procedures.
