Electrical products must be certified in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (cec)published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). Provinces and territories across Canada have incorporated the Canadian Electrical Code into their respective laws and regulations. The CEC mandates that electrical equipment be approved by a certification body accREDited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). A complete list of recognized certification marks is available on the SCC’s website.

In addition to the CEC, provincial regulations also impose other requirements for electrical products, including Ontario’s Electricity Act, 1998and its Product Safety Regulation, and British Columbia’s Safety Standards Actand Electrical Safety Regulation. For more information, refer to each province’s regulatory agency websites linked below.

Amazon requires all electrical productsto be tested and certified to applicable regulations or standards. Below is a list of commonly regulated electrical products and their corresponding standards:

1. Plug-in Adapters: Includes plug-in adapters, light-duty chargers, USB chargers, and plug-in USB devices. These convert AC to DC to power electronic devices or replace traditional outlets.

 Standard: CSA C22.2 No. 223

2. Decorative Light Strings: Includes decorative string lights and holiday displays. These are lighting assemblies with multiple lamps connected via flexible cords, often used for seasonal decoration.

 Standards: CSA C22.2 No. 37 or UL 588

3. Inverters: Includes inverters and solar inverters. These convert DC to AC; solar inverters may also include grid-connection features.

 Standard: CSA C22.2 No. 107.1

4. EV Chargers: Electric vehicle charging stations provide AC/DC power and various functionalities. Level 2 chargers enable faster charging.

 Standards: CSA C22.2 No. 280 or UL 2594

5. Energy Storage Systems: Includes systems that store electrical energy, such as battery systems with energy management capabilities.

 Standard: ANSI/CAN/UL 9540

- Model number, part number, or item number

- Manufacturer or brand name

- Certifying body or agency

You Must Submit the Following:

As per CAN/CSA 22.2 standards, submit oneof the following:

1. A test report or certificateissued by an SCC-accredited certification body confirming compliance with CSA C22.2 or applicable UL safety standards, OR

2. An Amazon Declaration Formlisting the item/product number or model number, which must be listed in the database of an SCC-accredited body, and showing compliance with CSA C22.2 or applicable UL safety standards.

Provide clear images showing:

- Model number, part number, or item number

- Manufacturer, importer, distributor, or authorized representative name and address

- Brand name or registered trademark

- Product labeling

- Product packaging

- ComplianCE certification mark

- Hazard warnings (in English and French)

- Product manuals and instructions (in English and French)

Examples of Permitted Products

- Electrical products bearing an official mark or label from an SCC-accredited certification body.

- Class 1 (e.g., CD players), Class 2 (e.g., barcode scanners), and Class 3R (e.g., laser pointers) laser products that meet applicable standards and intended uses.

Examples of Prohibited Products

- Electrical products without a certification mark or label from an SCC-accredited body.

- Products with altered or removed serial numbers.

- Ozone generators.

- Products containing Class 3B or Class 4 lasers.

- Video game controllers that enhance(rather than replace) existing technology.

- Replacement video game controllers or devices (e.g., chips or cards).

- Bundled video game packages (e.g., "Xbox 360 Core Set with 2 controllers and 2 games").

- DVD duplicatorsthat bypass copyright protection.

- Region-modified or region-unlocked Blu-ray players.

- Cell phone unlocking devices.

- Cell phones with invalid ESNs (Electronic Serial Numbers).

- MICro SIM cards modified from standard SIM cards.

- Certain streaming media playerslisted below.
