First, the manufacturer needs to submit the certification request in the PTCRB certification database, upload the technical documents, and then select a primary laboratory. After receiving the notification, the primary laboratory will arrange the testing and upload the test report to the PTCRB certification database. CTIA will review the test report and technical documents. Upon approval, it will send a notification email to all operators and simultaneously list the product in the PTCRB certification database.
PTCRB testing categories mainly include tests for the RF (Radio Frequency) section, Protocol section, SIM section, and Audio section. Among them, the testing requirement for the OTA (Over-The-Air) section is to conduct tests according to the OTA test standards issued by CTIA.
Field testing is an indispensable part of PTCRB certification. For each operating frequency band, real-network interactions across 5 operators can be conducted simultaneously with the RF, Protocol, and SIM tests.
If you wish to apply for PTCRB membership, you need to fill in the relevant information on the PTCRB website, submit a membership application, and engage a laboratory for product testing. After passing the review, you will become a PTCRB member with no annual membership fee required. The member then submits the relevant documents and test reports on the PTCRB website. PTCRB will review the documents and reports, issue a payment notice, and place the product in a pending certification status.
The PTCRB testing cycle depends primarily on the functions supported by the product. Generally speaking, if a full PTCRB type approval test proceeds smoothly, the testing cycle typically takes about 4 weeks.
