The EU Optical Cable CPR Regulation EN 50575 Standard: It not only specifies requirements for the vertical flame spread of a single insulated wire or cable, but also sets requirements for bunched cable combustion. While restricting the flame spread height, it explicitly regulates the amount of smoke and heat generated during the combustion process. Furthermore, it sets clear requirements for the halogen content in wires and cables to prevent the release of acidic gases that can damage human mucous membranes during a fire. Meeting the above requirements can effectively reduce the physical harm caused to humans by burning wires and cables in the event of a fire.


Main Testing Items and Standards for Optical Cable CPR Certification

The EU EN 13501-6 standard specifies the fire classification requirements for construction products, building elements, and equipment. Within this, the fire ratings of cables—such as power cables, optical cables, and network cables—are evaluated according to EN 13501-6. The main standards for EN 13501-6 fire classification testing are as follows:

  • EN ISO 1716: Gross heat of combustion test

  • EN 60332-1-2: Vertical flame spread test

  • EN 50399: Heat release and smoke production test

  • EN 61034-2: Smoke density test during combustion

  • EN 60754-2: Acidity test of gases evolved during combustion
