What Does EN 300 220 Compliance Test?

Views :
Update time : 2025-07-04

EN 300 220 is a core standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). It applies to short-range devices (SRD) operating at frequencies between 25 MHz and 1000 MHz, with power ≤500 mW. Typical examples include smart home sensors, industrial remote controls, and RFID tags. The standard ensures spectrum compliance and is a harmonized standard under the RED Directive (2014/53/EU).

Core Test Items and Requirements

Carrier Power

Purpose:Controls the device’s transmission power to prevent interference with other bands.

Limits:

433 MHz band: maximum e.r.p. 10 mW

868 MHz band: maximum e.r.p. 25 mW

Method:

Devices with integrated antenna: measured via radiated testing in an anechoic chamber.

Devices with antenna port: measured via conducted testing, assuming 100% antenna efficiency.

Power Spectral Density (PSD)

1. Purpose:Limits power distribution within a given bandwidth to prevent spectrum overload.

2. Limit:Typically ≤10 mW per 100 kHz (e.g., 868 MHz band).

3. Application:Especially important for narrowband modULation (e.g., LoRa, FSK).

Frequency Tolerance

1. Purpose:Ensures the transmission frequency stays within the specified band.

2. Limits:

a. ±100 ppm at normal temperature

b. ±200 ppm at extreme temperatures

3. Conditions:Tested between -20°C and +50°C.

Spurious Emissions

1. Purpose:Suppresses unwanted emissions outside the operating band.

2. Limits:

a. 30 MHz to 1 GHz: ≤ -54 dBm (e.r.p.)

b. Above 1 GHz: ≤ -36 dBm (e.r.p.)

c. Special bands (e.g., aviation): ≤ -80 dBm

Duty Cycle & Dwell Time

1. Purpose:Limits channel occupancy to improve spectrum sharing.

2. Limits:

868 MHz band: duty cycle ≤1% or dwell time ≤0.4 s per channel

Receiver Blocking

1. Purpose:Verifies receiver stability under strong interference.

2. Limit:The receiver must continue to function when interference strength REACHes 94 dBμV/m.

Test Methods and Configuration

Environment:

1. Radiated tests: conducted in anechoic chamber

2. Conducted tests: use 50 Ω load

3. Temperature: 15°C–35°C

4. Humidity: 30%–60% relative humidity

Device configuration:

1. Integrated antenna: e.r.p. tested via radiated method

2. External antenna port: conducted power tested; limit converted to e.r.p.

3. Extreme conditions: repeat power and frequency tests at ±15% supply voltage and at temperature extremes
