Amazon CPC 16 CFR Part 1213 compliancerefers to the requirement that sellers on Amazon who offer certain children’s products(typically crib side rails) must ensure that their products meet the safety standards specified in U.S. federal regULation 16 CFR Part 1213, and must provide a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC)as proof of compliance.
16 CFR Part 1213is a federal safety regulation issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). It sets out specific safety requirements for crib side rails.
- Applicable Products:
Detachable or fixed side railsused to prevent infants or toddlers from falling out of cribs or toddler beds.
- Purpose:
To ensure that crib side rails are structurally safe and do not pose hazards such as entrapment, falls, or suffocation—especially those resulting from design flaws or improper use.

Lead Time:
Regular testing time — 8 working days.
- Any bunk bed with the lower bed’s foundation 30 inches (760 mm) or more above the floormust have at least two guardrails, one on each side.
- The wall-side guardrailmust be fully connectedto the headboard and footboard, with no gaps greater than 0.22 inches (5.6 mm).
- The outer-side guardrailmay have openings of less than 15 inches (380 mm)at each end near the headboard and footboard.
- If a ladderis built into one side of the bed, a continuous guardrailmust be installed on the opposite side.
- Guardrails must not be removablewithout intentionally loosening fasteners or applying force in a specific sequence.
- When a mattress of the specified thickness is in place, the distance between the mattress surface and the top of the guardrailmust be at least 5 inches (130 mm).
- When no mattress is installed, there must be no openingsbetween the upper bed base and the bottom of the upper guardrail.
- Each bunk bed must have a permanent labelindicating:
- The manufacturer’s, importer’s, or retailer’s name and address(including city, state, and ZIP code),
- The product model, and
- The date of manufacture.
- The inside of the upper bunkmust display a permanent safety warning labelthat:
- Cannot be coveREDby bedding,
- But may be coveredby a pillow.
Manufacturers must provide an instruction manualthat includes:
- The mattress and bed base dimensions(length, width, and maximum mattress thickness to meet guardrail requirements), and
- The following safety warnings:
- Children under 6 years old must not use the upper bunk.
- Guardrails are requiredon both sides of the upper bunk.
- Rough playon or under the bed is prohibited.
- Only one personmay use the upper bunk at a time.
- Use the ladderto get into or out of the upper bunk.
- When placed against a wall, the side with a continuous guardrailshould face the wall to prevent entrapment between the bed and wall.
