Cross-Cut Test Methods and Common Standards

• ASTM D3359-09 Standard Test Methods for Measuring Adhesion by Tape Test

• BS 3900-E6 Paints and varnishes — Methods of test — Part E6: Cross-cut test

• ISO 2409 Paints and varnishes — Cross-cut test

• DIN 53151 Testing of rubber; Determination of tear strength

Adhesion Test Evaluation Standards

• ISO Grade 0, ASTM Grade 5B: The edges of the cuts are completely smooth with no flaking at the grid edges.

• ISO Grade 1, ASTM Grade 4B: Small flakes at the intersections of the cuts; actual damage within the grid area does not exceed 5%.

• ISO Grade 2, ASTM Grade 3B: Flaking at the edges and intersections of the cuts, covering 5%–15% of the area.

• ISO Grade 3, ASTM Grade 2B: Flaking along the cut edges, large partial flaking, or even entire flaking of some grids; flaked area accounts for 15%–35%.

• ISO Grade 4, ASTM Grade 1B: Large flaking along the cut edges, complete flaking of some grids; flaked area accounts for 35%–65%.

• ISO Grade 5, ASTM Grade 0B: Exceeds the previous grade.
