What is the IP65 Protection Rating Test?

The IP65 protection rating test is a dustproof and waterproof rating test for the enclosures of electronic and electrical products. Passing the IP65 test signifies that the product is fULly protected against dust and water spray.

Applications of the IP65 Protection Rating

IP65 protection ratings are commonly applied to outdoor products such as cameras, speakers, and lighting fixtures. These products typically require protection against the ingress of dust and rainwater.

ip65 testing Services at China JJR Laboratory

China JJR Laboratory offers IP65 protection rating testing services and can issue internationally recognized third-party test reports.

Meaning of IP65 Protection Rating

The IP65 protection rating test measures the level of protection against foreign object ingress for electrical equipment enclosures. The first digit represents the level of protection against dust and foreign objects, while the second digit indicates the degree of protection against moisture and water ingress. The higher the number, the better the protection. In IP65, the "6" signifies complete protection against dust, while the "5" indicates protection against water jets from any direction.

IP65 Testing Standards

The IP65 protection rating test is primarily conducted according to two standards: GB/T4208-2017 and iec60529:2013. Equipment used domestically usually follows the GB/T4208 standard, with reports issued in Chinese, while products intended for export generally follow the IEC60529 standard, with reports issued in English.

IP65 Testing Methods

The IP65 protection rating test includes the IP6X dust test and the IPX5 water test.

- IP6X Dust Test: The sample is placed in a dust test chamber, using talcum powder at a concentration of 2kg/m³. The dust test duration is 8 hours.

- IPX5 Water Test: The sample is mounted on a test platform, with a nozzle diameter of 12.5mm. The water flow rate is (12±0.5) L/min. Water is sprayed on the enclosure surface for approximately 1 minute per cubic meter, with a minimum duration of 3 minutes. The nozzle is positioned 2.5m to 3m from the enclosure surface.

IP65 Testing Requirements

- After the IP6X dust test, the product passes if there is no dust inside the enclosure when opened.

- After the IPX5 water test, the product passes if there are no water droplets inside the enclosure when opened.

IP65 Test Report Procedure

1. Application: The applicant fills out the IP65 dustproof and waterproof rating test application form.

2. Quotation: Testing fees are determined based on the product.

3. Payment: After confirming the quotation, the applicant signs the application form and service agreement, pays the full project fee, and prepares the test sample.

4. Testing: After the IP65 tests are completed successfully, the report is finalized.

5. Report Issuance: The IP65 dustproof and waterproof rating test report is issued.

The above is an introduction to the IP65 protection rating test. China JJR Laboratory is accREDited with CNAS for IP protection rating testing services, including IP54, IP56, IP57, IP65, IP66, IP67, and IP68. We provide third-party IP protection rating testing services for electronic and electrical products.
