What is Mexico IFT Certification?

Certification Overview

ifetel, short for Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, is the Federal Telecommunications Institute of Mexico. It is responsible for conducting testing and type approval procedures requiRED for all imported telecommunications equipment in Mexico.

 

All products that use frequencies to transmit or receive signals, as well as all communication products connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)or to the public network, must obtain IFETEL certification.

 

Marking Guidelines

On October 2, 2024, the Federal Telecommunications Institute of Mexico (IFETEL) approved amendments to the type certification guidelines and the IFT mark usage guidelines.

The updated IFT mark usage guidelines were originally schedULed to take effect on July 1, 2025. On April 11, 2025, IFETEL initiated a public consultation on the effective date and scope of these revised guidelines. As a result, the effective date was postponed from July 1, 2025to July 1, 2027.

 

What is Mexico IFT Certification?(图2)


Requirements Effective July 1, 2027:

1. IFT markmust be applied physically or electronically on approved products.

2. The mark must include:

 - The uppercase prefix "IFT"

 - The IFT approval certificate number

 - The IFT graphic element

3. The graphic element must:

 - Be 100% black on whiteor 100% white on black

 - Follow the defined protection area (no text or graphics allowed within)

 - Meet the minimum printing size (5.41 mm length × 2.6 mm height)

4. Both verticaland horizontalversions of the IFT mark are allowed.

5. If the product is too small to display the mark on the product or its packaging, the IFT mark must be shown in the product manual. For certain products, an electronic manualcan be used.

- Testing Method: Local testing in Mexico

- Factory Inspection: Not required

- Certificate Holder: Actual importer in Mexico

- Mark/Nameplate: Required
