ul 62368 is a safety standard issued by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), based on the international standard iec 62368 - 1. It applies to audio - visual, information technology, and communication technology equipment, replacing the old standards UL 60950 - 1 (for information technology equipment) and UL 60065 (for audio - visual equipment).

Core Points of UL 62368

1. Hazard - Based Safety Engineering (HBSE)

Different from traditional prescriptive safety standards, UL 62368 adopts a risk - oriented approach, focusing on identifying and mitigating potential hazards (such as electrical, thermal, mechanical, and fire hazards).

Energy sources are classified into three levels:

① Class 1 Energy: No hazard (safe under normal use).

② Class 2 Energy: Potential hazard (may cause discomfort but no injury).

③ Class 3 Energy: Hazardous energy (may cause injury or fire).

2. Scope of Application

It covers a wide range of electronic equipment, including:

① Computers, servers, routers

② Televisions, audio systems, projectors

③ Mobile phones, chargers, power adapters

④ Industrial communication equipment

3. Transition from Old Standards

UL 60950 - 1 and UL 60065 have been gradually phased out, and UL 62368 - 1 has become a mandatory standard (implementation timelines vary by region; for example, full enforcement in the United States began on December 20, 2020).

4. Testing and Certification Requirements

Manufacturers must conduct tests through UL - recognized laboratories to ensure their products comply with the following requirements:

① Electrical safety

② Fire protection

③ Mechanical structure safety

④ Thermal management

Why is UL 62368 Important?

① Global Harmonization: Aligned with IEC 62368 - 1, facilitating products' access to the international market.

② Technological Updates: Adapts to the safety needs of new - type equipment (such as fast - charging and high - power devices).

③ Risk REDuction: Reduces potential product safety hazards through scientific methodologies.
