IEC 62368-1is an international product safety standard designed to classify different energy sources by energy levels and propose effective safety measures. Its goal is to reduce the risk of injury to individuals, minimize the likelihood of fire, and reduce property damage.
On May 26, 2023, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)officially released the 4th editionof IEC 62368-1. Compared with the 3rd edition, the main changes in the 4th edition include:
1. Updated tables for external circuit requirements
2. Revised requirements for openings in fire enclosures
3. Revised requirements for liquid-filled components
4. Revised battery charging requirements
IEC 62368-1 covers a wide range of electronic and electrical products, including:
- Audio and video equipment
- Information technology products
- Commercial office automation equipment not exceeding 600V
- Power supplies
- Displays and monitors
- Televisions
- Laptops and personal computers
- Computer peripherals
1. Basic Requirements
(Component structure, labeling and instructions, energy classification and protection, safety mechanisms, explosion protection)
2. Injury Caused by Electricity
(Protection from electrical energy sources, insulation materials and requirements, safety components)
3. Fire Caused by Electricity
(Classification of power and potential ignition sources, fire safety protection, internal and external wiring)
4. Injury Caused by Hazardous Substances
5. Mechanical Injury
6. Thermal Burn Injuries
7. Radiation
(Classification of radiated energy sources, laser radiation protection, acoustic energy protection)
1. Submit product samples to JJR Laboratory China
2. Fill out the application form
3. Provide required product documentation, including:
- Product manual
- Full list of model numbers (series models)
- Circuit diagram and PCB layout
- List and certifications of critical components
- Nameplate information
4. Conduct product testing; test report will be issued upon passing
> Note:When applying for IEC certification, please inform the lab of the countries to be included in the report. Country-specific deviations will be considered during testing.
The mandatory date for EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (3rd Edition)has been extended by 18 monthsfrom January 6, 2023, to July 6, 2024. This means the EN 62368-1:2014 (2nd Edition)is officially valid until July 6, 2024.
You can still use EN 62368-1:2014 (2nd Edition)to apply for CE certificationuntil July 6, 2024.
