The IEC 62368-1 standardis a new safety standard applicable to audio/video equipment, information technology, and communication technology equipment. It is designed to reduce the need for frequent updates to existing safety standards in response to product innovations.
Under the new EU low voltage directive (LVD) 2014/35/EUand the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU, EN 62368-1 / IEC 62368-1:2014officially replacedthe previous standards en 60950-1and EN 60065on June 20, 2019. From that date forward, audio/video and IT products entering the EU market must comply with EN 62368-1 / IEC 62368-1.

Applications under the old UL 60950-1standard are no longer accepted. Moreover, any existing certified products undergoing significant changes(e.g., primary circuit modifications) must also transition to UL 62368-1.
The IEC 62368-1standard replaces the existing IEC 60950-1 (ITE standard)and IEC 60065 (Audio/Video standard).
The UL/EN/IEC 62368-1standard became legally enforceableonly after formal adoption by regional and national authorities.
