EN/IEC 62368 Test Report Project

Update time : 2024-07-01

Recently, there has been an important change regarding the DOW (Date of Withdrawal) for EN/IEC 62368-1:2020. The original DOW date was set for July 6, 2024, but it has now been extended to December 7, 2025.

Reasons for the Extension of the Withdrawal Date

Given that the only harmonized standard EN 62368-1 under the current lvd directive official announcement (EUOJ) is the second edition, withdrawing EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (the third edition) as originally planned would leave the market without an applicable safety standard, leading to confusion and misunderstandings. Therefore, the EU CEN-CENELEC Technical Board (BT), at the final CLC/TC 108X plenary meeting of 2023, requested an 18-month extension for the DOW of the third edition, moving it from July 6, 2024, to December 7, 2025.

Current Standard Usage

Until this date, manufacturers and importers can still use EN 62368-1:2014 (second edition) to apply for certificates/DOC. This version of the standard will remain valid until the new DOW date, December 7, 2025. During this period, relevant companies should ensure that their products comply with the requirements of this standard to guarantee product safety and compliance.

Impact on Product Manufacturers

1. More Time to Prepare and Adapt to the New Standard

   Manufacturers now have more time to adapt to the requirements of EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (third edition) since its withdrawal date has been extended from July 6, 2024, to December 7, 2025. This means they have more time to update their products to meet the new standard requirements.

2. Continued Use of the Old Standard

   Before the new withdrawal date, manufacturers can still use EN 62368-1:2014 (second edition) to apply for certificates/DOC. This means they can continue to produce and sell their products according to the old standard.

3. Avoidance of Potential Confusion and Misunderstandings

   Withdrawing EN IEC 62368-1:2020 (third edition) as originally planned on July 6, 2024, would have left the market without an applicable safety standard, potentially causing confusion and misunderstandings. This issue has now been resolved.

Main Test Items of the EN/IEC 62368 Test Report

1. General requirements; injuries caused by electricity;

2. Fire caused by electricity; injuries caused by hazardous substances;

3. Injuries caused by mechanical factors; injuries from thermal burns;

4. Tests under normal operating conditions, abnormal operating conditions, and single fault conditions;

5. Test conditions for equipment containing audio amplifiers;

6. Equipment markings, instructions, and indicative safety protections; components.

International Certification Transfer of IEC 62368 CB Report

Currently, most countries can start accepting IEC 62368-1:2018, and some local standards already directly apply IEC 62368-1:2018 (third edition). The Chinese JJR laboratory can provide multi-country IEC 62368 certification transfer services, including: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Serbia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the Eurasian Economic Union, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, etc.
