If you’re planning to sell rice cookers on Amazon Europe, CE certification is a must-pass checkpoint! Today, we’ll walk you through the testing standards and application timeline—helping you avoid costly mistakes and speed up the process. Save this guide now!

ce testing Standards UncoveRED

LVD – low voltage directive (2014/35/EU):

This is the guardian of electrical safety! It requires that rice cookers operating at rated voltages (typically 220–240V) must have an insULation resistance ≥ 1MΩ to prevent electrical leakage. For example, internal wiring must have double-layer insulation, and components like plugs and sockets must pass dielectric strength tests to ensure users are protected from electric shocks—making cooking both safe and reassuring.

EMC – Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (2014/30/EU):

Your rice cooker must not interfere with other household appliances while operating! On one hand, its electromagnetic emissions must stay within standard limits—such as conducted disturbance voltage being within the 150kHz–30MHz range, so it doesn’t disrupt nearby Wi-Fi or TV signals . On the other hand, the device must also be resistant to interference, able to function normally even when exposed to disturbances from other devices, ensuring stable performance during cooking.

RoHS 2.0 Directive:

This is all about environmental protection and health! It strictly limits the content of six hazardous substances, including lead and mercury. For instance, lead (Pb) must be ≤ 0.1%, and mercury (Hg) ≤ 0.1%. This helps prevent environmental contamination when the product is discarded, and reduces the risk of trace toxic exposure during use.

ErP – Energy-related Products Directive:

This concerns energy efficiency! It evaluates standby power consumption and cooking energy efficiency ratings. For example, standby power should be ≤ 0.5W, and energy efficiency should be at least A++. This not only helps consumers save on electricity but also aligns with Europe’s green and eco-friendly values.

Application Timeline Guide

Under normal circumstances, CE certification for rice cookers takes about 2–3 weeks. However, if product documentation (such as circuit diagrams or user manuals) is incomplete, or if issues arise during testing—like insufficient insulation or excessive electromagnetic emissions—you’ll need to provide additional materials or make corrections, which can significantly extend the timeline.

Tips: Prepare detailed product documentation in advance and strictly control quality during production. Aim for first-time approval to get your rice cooker selling hot on Amazon Europe as soon as possible!
