What is the UL 60335-2-29 Standard?

UL 60335-2-29: Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-29: Particular Requirements For Battery Chargers.

This standard must be used in conjunction with the foundational standard UL 60335-1. A report based solely on Part 2-29 cannot be issued independently.

  • Applicability: Household battery chargers, small lithium battery appliances with built-in charging modules (charging bases, integrated charging appliances).

  • Specifications: DC output ≤ 250V, rated input voltage ≤ 250V. It is one of the optional compliance standards for lithium battery appliances on Amazon US. Alternative standards in the same group include: UL 1012 / ul 1310 / ul 62368-1.

amazon tic Audit Rules

TIC stands for Amazon-authorized third-party Testing, Inspection, and Certification service provider. Sellers cannot directly upload documents to Amazon; they must submit them through an Amazon-approved TIC service provider for verification.

  1. For an ASIN that receives a compliance notification, create a TRF (Test Request Form) in Seller Central under [Account Health > Policy Compliance], and select an Amazon-authorized TIC agency (such as UL, Eurofins, NSF, etc.).

  2. Two Paths:

  • Path A (Existing Report): Submit a UL 60335-1 + UL 60335-2-29 report issued by an ISO 17025 laboratory within the last 12 months to the TIC. The TIC will audit the validity of the document, verify the model, nameplate, and test coverage. Upon approval, the TIC will submit it to Amazon on your behalf.

  • Path B (No Report): Send samples to a TIC laboratory for complete testing according to UL 60335-1 + UL 60335-2-29.

  1. Mandatory Battery Supporting Documents (when the charger comes with a corresponding lithium battery pack): Choose one of three battery standards: ul 1642 / ul 2054 / ul 62133-2 + un 38.3 Report + BTS Battery Test Overview.

TIC Audit Material Checklist

  1. Test Report: Full set of reports for UL 60335-1 + UL 60335-2-29 (ISO 17025 certified, valid within 12 months, matching model).

  2. High-Definition Images of Product Nameplate: Including model, manufacturer, rated parameters, and warning labels.

  3. High-Definition Real Photos of the Product Body and Packaging.

  4. User Manual (safety warnings).

  5. Battery Supporting Reports (if the product comes with a built-in lithium battery): UL battery standard, UN 38.3, BTS.

  6. Explanation of Product Model Differences (if the same report covers multiple models).

Important Pitfalls to Avoid:

  • Doing UL 60335-2-29 alone without UL 60335-1 will be directly rejected by TIC.

  • If the model in the report does not match the actual physical nameplate of the ASIN, it cannot pass TIC verification.

  • Reports issued by non-ISO 17025 laboratories are not recognized by TIC and will require re-testing.

TIC Audit Process

  1. Receive compliance notification in the seller account health dashboard → Create a TRF form and select an Amazon-authorized TIC service provider.

  2. Submit the full set of materials to TIC / Send samples for testing.

  3. TIC conducts an internal audit of the report / tests the samples, verifying standard clauses, nameplate, and model.

  4. TIC completes the verification and submits the results to Amazon.

  5. Amazon backend updates the compliance status, removing the risk of ASIN removal; if it fails, TIC will inform you of the missing items for rectification and re-testing.

Differences from UL 62368-1

  • UL 60335 Series: Appliance charging products. Preferred for household battery chargers; focuses on appliance temperature rise, waterproofing, mechanical structure, and abnormal operation protection.

  • UL 62368-1: Audio/Video / IT power supply category. Commonly used for power adapters and independent power modules.

Common Reasons for Rejection

  1. The report is missing UL 60335-1 and only has Part 2-29.

  2. The report has exceeded its 12-month validity period.

  3. The laboratory lacks ISO 17025 qualification.

  4. The nameplate is missing necessary warnings, manufacturer information, or rated parameters.

  5. For built-in lithium batteries, UN 38.3 / BTS documents are missing.

  6. The model in the report is inconsistent with the actual physical model of the listed ASIN.
