What is cec Registration?

CEC registration refers to the listing requirements set by the Clean Energy Council (CEC) of Australia for clean energy products. The CEC is the peak body of Australia's clean energy industry, responsible for ensuring that relevant products meet Australian energy efficiency and safety standards.

Scope of CEC Registration

CEC registration primarily applies to the following clean energy products:

1. Inverters: Devices used in solar power systems to convert DC to AC electricity.

2. Power Conversion Equipment (PCE): Includes power conversion units within photovoltaic (PV) systems.

3. Photovoltaic Modules: Solar PV panels and modules.

4. Battery Storage Systems: Energy storage systems with or without integrated power conversion equipment.

Importance of CEC Registration

1. Market Access: Only CEC-listed products can be installed in Australian end-use storage and solar projects and are eligible for government rebates.

2. Regulatory Compliance: CEC registration is a basic requirement for clean energy products in Australia. Non-registered products may face recalls or legal liabilities.

CEC Registration Process

The typical process for CEC registration includes the following steps:

1. Application Submission: Applicants must provide relevant product documentation, including technical specifications and test reports.

2. Product Testing: Products must be tested in a CEC-accredited laboratory to ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., IEC 61215 series).

3. Report Submission: Submit the test reports and other necessary documents to the CEC for review.

4. Review and Listing: Upon approval, the product will be added to the CEC approved product list and granted registration status.

CEC Standards Update

1. IEC 61215 Standard:

From April 1, 2024, the CEC will no longer accept certifications based on the 2016 edition of the IEC 61215 standard.

All new applications must comply with the 2021 edition.

From October 1, 2024, all currently listed products must also meet the 2021 version.

2. Transition Period:

Products certified under the 2016 standard may remain listed until September 30, 2024, to allow for inventory clearance.

Benefits of CEC Registration

1. Government Subsidies: CEC-registered products are eligible for Australia's clean energy incentives.

2. Market Competitiveness: CEC listing is a strong indicator of product quality and compliance, enhancing competitiveness in the Australian market.

Additional Notes

Supply Chain Coordination: Manufacturers and importers must maintain close communication with their supply chains to complete inventory clearance and new standard certifications before the deadline.

Labeling Requirements: Registered products must display the CEC approval mark on the label, complying with the CEC’s durability and size specifications.
