What is bsmi Certification?

BSMI stands for "Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection," under the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan. It is responsible for establishing requirements for products entering the Taiwanese market and implementing relevant regulations. According to an announcement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan, starting from July 1, 2005, products entering the Taiwan region are subject to supervision in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety, and starting from January 1, 2018, they must also comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS).

Introduction to bsmi certification for Wires and Plugs

BSMI certification for wires and plugs is mandatory in Taiwan. It requires testing by local institutions in Taiwan. The certificate is valid for three years and can be renewed once (for an additional 3 years). For the first application for wires, a factory inspection is required, followed by an annual factory inspection after certification. However, plugs do not require a factory inspection.

Common Wire Types in Taiwan:

a. PVC wires: VFF; HVFF; VCTF; HVCTF; VCTFK; HVCTFK.

b. Rubber wires: NNFF; PNCTF; PNCTFK.

Testing Standards: CNS 3199; CNS 15663.

The Taiwan Bureau of Standards updated its sampling principles for wires in September 2020, which apply to new applications and certificate renewal projects. For details, please confirm with SGS Testing.

Common Plug Models in Taiwan:

a. Plug polarity: Generally two-pole, product name: Non-separable power cord set.

Common applied rated parameters: AC125V 7A 11A 15A

b. Plug polarity: Two-pole with ground, product name: Non-separable power cord set.

Common applied rated parameters: AC125V 7A 11A 15A

Testing Standards: CNS 690; CNS 15767-1.

Note: Wires and plugs must comply with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) and require a rohs report. RoHS reports issued by ISO17025 laboratories are accepted. You can apply for testing through us.

BSMI Certification Process:

a. Submission of application documents

b. Submission of test samples

c. Test arrangement

d. Factory inspection (one day)

e. Report review, certificate issuance

BSMI Certification Timeline:

Upon receipt of samples, the testing engineer at the BSMI cooperating laboratory in Taiwan completes the testing report within 12-15 weeks.

The testing report is then submitted to the certification issuance department of the Taiwan Bureau of Standards for review and issuance. It takes an estimated 2 weeks for the certification department to issue the bsmi certificate.

The entire certification process, from testing to certification issuance, takes 14-17 weeks.
