Directive 2022/2380

On December 7, 2022, the European Union officially published Directive (EU) 2022/2380 in the Official Journal (OJ), which amends the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU to include specific implementation requirements for universal charging interfaces under Article 3(3)(a).

The standards EN IEC 62680-1-2 and EN IEC 62680-1-3, established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), define international specifications for USB interfaces. These aim to standardize charging interfaces across electronic devices, particULarly promoting support for USB Type-C connectors and the USB Power Delivery (USB PD) protocol. The ultimate goal is to REDuce electronic waste, improve interoperability among devices, promote environmental sustainability, and lower carbon emissions.
