Views :
Update time : 2025-05-28

Did You Know?Starting from June 20, 2025, the European Union will officially include smartphones, cordless phones, and tablets under the mandatory ERP Energy Label regULation.

This means:

Any such digital product shipped to the EU must undergo energy efficiency testing, be registeRED in the EPREL database, and display the official energy label. Products that do not comply will be prohibited from being listed or sold in the EU market.

Mandatory Labeling for Phones and Tablets — Compliance Process

Similar to traditional home appliances, smart devices must complete the following steps before displaying the energy label:

1. Submit product samples for testing and obtain an energy efficiency test report

2. Register the product in the EPREL database

3. Submit required documentation and pass the audit

4. Download the official energy label and QR code

5. Affix the label to the product or inside the packaging

New Requirements for Mobile Device labels

Compared to traditional appliance labels, energy labels for smartphones and tablets include more detailed information:

- Energy efficiency rating from A to G

- Battery life (based on usage cycles)

- Repairability index

- Water and dust resistance (IP rating)

- Drop resistance rating

- Battery cycle durability (at least 800 cycles retaining 80% capacity)

This means battery quality, durability, and repairability are now key factors in EU evaluations, with significantly higher standards than for traditional products.

Which Products Are Exempt?

According to the regulation, the following products are temporarily exempt from mandatory labeling:

- Devices with a rollable or flexible main display

- Inventory that was placed on the market before June 20, 2025

However, new products, especially smartphones and tablets sold through cross-border platforms, are not eligible for exemption.

Plan Ahead — Registration Takes Time

Energy testing and EPREL registration typically take 2 to 3 months.

If you are a seller of digital products on Amazon, Temu, or your own website, it is essential to plan your registration in advance.

The expansion of the EU Energy Label from large appliances to handheld devices marks a new era.
