Introduction to FCC-ID Certification:

The FCC-ID (Federal Communications Commission Identifier)is a unique identifier issued by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to identify and track electronic devices and products. Every electronic product sold in the U.S. market must obtain its own FCC-ID to demonstrate that it has passed fcc certification testing and complies with the FCC’s rULes and requirements.

 

Structure of an FCC-ID:

An fcc idconsists of two parts:

FCC ID = Grantee Code + Product Code

FCC-ID certification is a type of FCC certification specifically for wireless products. Products that feature wireless transmission or reception capabilities must apply for FCC-ID certification to be legally sold in the U.S. market.

In simpler terms, any product sold in the U.S. with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, 4G,or similar wireless functionalities must undergo FCC-ID certification.

 

Basic Documentation RequiRED to Apply for FCC-ID:

1. Product block diagram

2. Circuit schematic diagram

3. User manual (in English)

4. Antenna specification

5. Frequency-setting software and operating instructions

6. U.S. Agent information

 

FCC-ID Testing Items & Timeframe:

For wireless products, the required tests typically include EMC + RF.

For communication devices worn close to the body, tests may include EMC + RF + SAR.

Requirements vary by product type. The certification process typically takes at least 2 weeks.

What Is a U.S. Agent Required for FCC-ID?

According to U.S. regulations, any foreign entity engaged in the manufacturing, preparing, assembling, or processing of devices for import into the United States must appoint a U.S. Authorized Agent.

 

Main Responsibilities of a U.S. Agent:

1. Act as the manufacturer’s authorized representative for communicating with U.S. regulatory authorities. Assist in incident reporting, notifications, recalls, etc., on behalf of the manufacturer.

2. Retain the manufacturer’s technical documentation and serve as a point of contact for regulatory inquiries and communications.

3. Provide the following details in FCC/FCC-ID documentation: Name, Address, Phone Numberof the U.S. Agent.
