- VID Validity: Vendor IDs are valid for life, even if membership expires.
- USB Logo Usage Rights Validity:
- For temporary members, the USB logo usage rights are valid for 2 years.
- Full members do not have a specific validity period (as long as membership remains valid).
USB-IF certification testing ensures that products comply with USB standards and exhibit good interoperability. Testing includes:
- Electrical characteristic testing: Validates signal quality across various application architectures.
- Functional testing: Checks product support for standard requirements and device enumeration.
- Product interoperability testing: Determines how well the product interacts with other USB devices.
- Apply for USB-IF membership:
- Submit a membership application to USB-IF to become a full or temporary member.
- Full membership costs US$5,000 annually and offers more benefits; temporary members pay additional fees to obtain VID and USB logo usage rights.
- Use USB-IF certified connectors & cables: Ensure during product development that connectors and cables adhere to USB-IF standards.
- Submit products for testing at USB-authorized labs:
- Send products to third-party testing labs authorized by USB-IF (e.g., China JJRLAB) for certification testing.
- Obtain qualification reports and certificates:
- If the product passes testing, receive qualification reports and certificates confirming compliance with USB standards.
- Use the appropriate USB logo:
- Display the USB-IF certified logo on the product to indicate compliance.
