How to Apply for METI Registration in Japan?

METIstands for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industryof Japan.

According to Japan’s DENAN Law(Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law), all electrical and electronic products subject to pse certificationmust be registeRED with Japan’s METI by the Japanese importer within one month after importation.

The importer’s name or IDmust be marked on the product to facilitate supervision and management during sales and distribution in Japan.

 

How to Apply for METI Registration in Japan?(图1)


Currently, there are 457 types of productsthat must obtain PSE certificationbefore entering the Japanese market.

Among them:

- 116 Category A productsrequire a diamond-shaped pse mark.

- 341 Category B productsrequire a circULar PSE mark.

 

Documents Required for meti registration

1. Application form(to be filled out according to the pse certificate)

2. Copy of the PSE certificate and test report

3. Product manual(in English or Japanese)

4. Product specification sheet

5. Declaration of differences(if there are series models in the report)

6. Product photos

 

> METI registration must be applied for directly with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

> The applicant must be a locally registered Japanese trading company.

> After the registration is completed, METI will issue an approval certificate.

 

METI Registration Period / Validity

1. Processing time:1–2 weeks

2. Validity period:3 years after registration

 

Relationship Between METI Registration and Amazon Platform

When selling products on Amazon Japanthat require METI registration, sellers must provide the corresponding registration certificate and documents.

Amazon will review the submitted informationto ensure the products comply with Japanese regulations.

If a seller fails to provide a valid METI registration certificate or if the products do not meet regulatory requirements, the products may be delistedor other penalties may apply.
