What is Japan's METI Registration?

Views :
Update time : 2024-07-22

To sell electrical products on Amazon Japan through cross-border e-commerce, you must have a pse certificate and meti registration. The PSE certificate is obtained by sending a sample to a laboratory for testing, and it can be processed in domestic laboratories. METI registration involves submitting the PSE certificate to Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) for registration. To list products in the PSE category on Amazon Japan, you must submit both the PSE certificate and METI registration; otherwise, your products risk being delisted.

Remember: The PSE certificate and METI registration are two separate proof materials and should not be confused.

Documents Required for Japan's METI Registration

1. PSE certificate and report

2. Instruction manual and specifications in English or Japanese

3. Guarantee statement

4. Application form (to be filled according to the PSE certificate)

5. Product images

6. Business license of the Japanese importer (not needed if you are using an intermediary)

Japan's METI Registration Process

1. Submit the complete documentation (see the checklist below).

2. The Japanese importer submits the documents to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

3. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry reviews and registers the documents.

4. A registration letter, both original and electronic, is issued.

Remember: Japan's METI registration must be applied for at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry in Japan, and the applicant must be a locally registered trading company.

Timeline for Japan's METI Registration

1. PSE certificate: 7-10 working days from the receipt of the sample.

2. METI registration: 5-7 working days after the complete documentation is submitted.

Remember: Obtain the PSE certificate first, then apply for Japan's METI registration. If you are a trader without your own factory, when choosing suppliers, you can ask if they have the PSE certificate and METI registration. Having these qualifications can save you a lot of effort in the subsequent listing process.

How to Choose a Japan METI Registration Agency

1. If you have a trading company in Japan, your company personnel can bring the complete documents to the local Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry to apply (similar to the domestic market supervision administration).

2. If you do not have a trading company in Japan, you can choose a Chinese agency to handle it on your behalf. The domestic agency will use its own Japanese company as your Japanese importer. When selecting an agency, consider the following:

   (1) Qualifications: Ensure they can provide a Japanese importer and check if the agency's Japanese company is their own. If so, it offers better control and easier communication if they have local staff in Japan.

   (2) Experience: Assess their experience through discussions or provided data to understand their handling of different cases.

   (3) Comprehensive service: Check if they offer a one-stop service, starting from the PSE certificate and providing professional guidance throughout the process.

Precautions for METI Registration

6.1 Can one METI registration document cover all products?

A: No. One PSE certificate corresponds to one METI registration document. If the PSE certificate covers multiple models, these models can be registered at once.

6.2 I have a product that is a power adapter with a lithium battery. The power adapter already has a METI registration document. Can the lithium battery use the same METI registration document?

A: No. The METI registration document for the power adapter falls under the category of "AC electrical appliances," while the lithium battery falls under "lithium batteries." Therefore, separate METI registration documents are required.

6.3 Is there a physical original document for METI registration?

A: METI registration has two types: one with an importer's qualification and one without (requiring an agency).

If the client provides their own Japanese importer information, the original document is sent directly to the local Japanese importer. If an agency's importer information is used, there is no physical document; the original document is archived with the Japanese importer.
