Introduction to Japan's JATE Certification

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) mandates compULsory certification for telecommunications equipment in Japan under the Telecommunications Business Act. This act, established in 1984, stipulates in Article 68 that MIC authorizes qualified agencies to implement conformity assessment of technical standards. JATE certification is the colloquial term for Japan's Telecommunications Business Act certification, which typically requires mobile phone products to meet the testing requirements of both the Telecommunications Business Act (commonly known as JATE certification) and the Radio Law (commonly known as telec certification) for legal market entry.
