Introduction to Indonesia's SNI Certification

SNI stands for Standar Nasional Indonesia in Indonesian, which refers to the Indonesian National Standards.

The SNI mark is the certification mark established by the Indonesian National Standardization Agency (BSN: Badan Standardisasi Nasional), used to declare that a product meets the requirements of SNI.

Most SNI standards are voluntary, but a few are mandatory. According to Article 15 of Indonesia's Government RegULation No. 102 of 2000 on National Standardization, products subject to mandatory standards must have an SNI certificate.

According to Indonesia's Government Regulation No. 20 of 2014 on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, BSN is designated as the implementing body.

BSN formulates technical regulations and carries out SNI certification through product certification bodies (LS Pro).

Brand owners should also pay attention to the Indonesian National AccREDitation Agency (KAN), which manages the product certification bodies (LS Pro).

The SNI certification process involves type testing and factory quality assurance ability review. The application process is as follows:

1. Confirm the SNI standard for the product.

2. Contact the product certification body (LS Pro) to ensure that their authorized scope covers the product to be applied for.

3. Submit the following application documents to LS Pro:

- Application letter

- Company legal documents and other technical quality documents (production flow chart)

Legal documents such as:

- Business license (SIUP)

- Business registration certificate (TDP)

- Taxpayer identification number (NPWP)

- Trademark registration letter from the Intellectual Property Office

- Organizational structure diagram

- Importer identification number (API-P)

- Cooperation agreement between brand owners and distributors

Technical quality documents such as:

- Operation manual

- List of production and inspection equipment

- Production flow chart

- Materials list

- SNI mark sample

- ISO9001:2015 certificate

- Other documents required by LS Pro

4. LS Pro will review the company’s situation and the completeness and accuracy of the documents.

5. Schedule a factory audit to evaluate the production process and management system, including the collection and testing of product samples.

6. If defects are found, LS Pro will evaluate the audit results, and the company must make improvements.

7. Certification is granted, and the applicant signs an agreement to use the SNI mark. The product receives SNI certification.

The certificate issued by LS Pro is valid for 4 years, with an annual review.

Marking Requirements:

Products listed in the mandatory list that have passed SNI certification must label the SNI mark according to the standards.

According to the certification rules, certified products must have a nameplate containing product name, model, brand, manufacturer's name and address (for locally produced products), importer's name and address (for imported goods), country of origin information, parameter information, and necessary symbols.

Additionally, the product nameplate must use the Indonesian language.

The product nameplate must also comply with product standards. For example, the audio-video product standard SNI 04-6253-2003 specifies product labeling requirements in Section 5.
