Does Canada Accept FCC Certification?

The United States has established standards for products that may cause electromagnetic interference to REDuce the level of radio frequency (RF) interference between electronic devices. Generally, every electronic product placed on the US market, regardless of whether it has wireless functionality, must comply with the regULations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in order to be sold. Additionally, if a product is equipped with a certified radio module, the final product as a whole must also comply with FCC regulations. A few days ago, a client consulted whether FCC certification is required for exporting products to Canada. Today, I'll answer this question.

Is fcc certification required for Exports to Canada?

Although ic certification is mandatory in Canada, FCC certification and canadian ic certification are mutually recognized, so only FCC certification is required. FCC certification is mandatory in the United States, and IC certification is also mandatory in Canada, both focusing on conducting related tests in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) aspects, with different requirements for wired and wireless products, and varying levels of strictness in control.

The basis for approval in the Canadian market is the so-called ised certification. The responsible organization for Canadian radio licenses is called Innovation, Science, and EconoMIC Development Canada (ised). In most cases, the technical requirements for market approval of products with radio technology are the same as in the United States, and the tasks of FCB in Canada are similar to those of TCB.

Documents have been submitted to ISED but have not been published on the website. If confidentiality is not required, these documents can be viewed after appropriate negotiation.

Compared to the United States, in addition to the certification number, the model name or the so-called "HVIN" must also be used on the label. Additionally, a marketing name is required for each approval before it is published on the website.

Approval cannot be obtained without a local representative (LR). LR must be registered with the authoritative body ISED.
