What is Cadmium Testing?

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal widely used in industries such as batteries, electroplating, pigments, and plastic stabilizers. However, cadmium and its compounds pose severe hazards to human health and the environment. They can accumulate through the food chain, leading to chronic poisoning and damaging organs such as the kidneys and bones. Therefore, testing and controlling cadmium content is of utmost importance.

Testing Scope

Cadmium content testing covers multiple fields, mainly including:

  • Food: Grains, vegetables, fruits, aquatic products, meat, dairy products, etc.

  • Environment: Soil, water quality, atmosphere, solid waste, etc.

  • Consumer Products: Toys, stationery, jewelry/accessories, tableware, electronic products, etc.

  • Industrial Materials: Metal materials, plastics, coatings, dyes, etc.

Testing Items

  • Total Cadmium Content: The total amount of cadmium in all forms present in the sample.

  • Soluble Cadmium Content: The amount of cadmium in the sample that is soluble in water or specific solvents.

  • Specific Form Cadmium Content: Such as inorganic cadmium, organic cadmium, etc.

Standards and Regulations

  • EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU)

  • reach regulation (EC) No 1907/2006

  • CPSC Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (cpsia)

  • JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards)

Why Perform Testing and Certification?

  • Protect Consumer Health and Safety: Control cadmium content to reduce the risk of human intake.

  • Comply with Regulatory Requirements: Meet relevant domestic and international regulations and standards to avoid trade barriers.

  • Enhance Product Competitiveness: Obtain authoritative testing and certification to boost consumer confidence.

  • Protect the Environment: Reduce cadmium pollution and maintain ecological balance.

Testing and Certification Turnaround Time

The testing and certification turnaround time depends on factors such as sample type, testing items, and the testing agency, generally taking 5 to 15 working days.

Required Documents for Testing and Certification

  • Samples: Provide a sufficient quantity of samples according to the testing requirements.

  • Product Information: Product name, model, specifications, production date, etc.

  • Company Information: Company name, address, contact details, etc.

  • Testing Application Form: A fully completed testing application form specifying the testing items and requirements.

  • Other Documents: Depending on the specific situation, product manuals, material certificates, etc., may be required.

Choosing a Testing Agency

Choose JJR, a third-party testing agency with CMA and CNAS qualifications, to ensure the accuracy and authority of the testing results.
