Safety Testing of Food Contact Materials

Update time : 2024-10-30

As public concern over food safety continues to grow, issues related to food contact materials and their impact on food safety have increasingly attracted attention from all sectors of society. Currently, a significant portion of the European Union's regulatory framework for food contact materials is issued in the form of directives, requiring member states to transpose them into their national laws for implementation. During this transposition, member states may add additional requirements based on their own circumstances, particularly countries like Germany, France, and Italy, which have established their own regulations for food contact materials. Therefore, products exported to the EU must comply not only with relevant EU directives but also with the legal requirements of individual member states.

Relevant Regulations and Our Services:

- Region: EU, Regulation: EC/1935/2004

- Region: Germany, Regulation: LFGB

- Region: France, Regulation: DGCCRF 2004-64

- Region: USA, Regulation: FDA CFR 21 Sections 170-190 & Proposition 65

- Region: Japan, Regulation: Japanese Food Sanitation Act

- Region: China, Regulation: Food Safety Law, National standards for testing various food containers and packaging, including polyethylene and imitation ceramics

Scope of Application:

Various materials in contact with food, including metals, plastics, silicone rubber, coatings, glass, ceramics, wood, and paper.

Common food-grade materials involve products such as rice cookers, ovens, coffee machines, and other electrical appliances in contact with food, as well as containers for food storage, cutting boards, stainless steel kitchenware, and utensils like bowls, spoons, cups, plates, and forks.

In addition to the national testing standards listed above, countries like the UK and Italy also have their own food-grade material testing requirements. We can conduct tests according to standards specific to different exporting countries and their respective food-grade materials, providing corresponding reports to help your products quickly enter the international market.
