UNI EN ISO 105-E05: Textiles – Tests for Colour Fastness – Colour Fastness to Spotting: Acid
The ISO 105-E05:2006 standard holds significant practical importance in the textile industry. It standardizes the method for testing the colour fastness of textiles in typical environments such as seawater and swimming pool water. This helps manufacturers ensure the colour stability of products during actual use, preventing issues like fading or dye migration that can negatively affect the user experience or lead to quality complaints. It is especially applicable for quality control of swimwear, casual wear, sportswear, and workwear used in aquatic environments. The standard directly contributes to enhancing product competitiveness and meeting international market entry requirements.
This standard applies to all types of textiles and is used to test their colour fastness to staining from seawater and chlorinated water (such as pool water).
An acid solution is applied to the test sample, and the surface is gently rubbed with a glass rod to facilitate penetration of the acid. The textile's colour change is then observed, both in the wet state and after drying. The change in colour can be assessed visually or with instruments. The detailed procedure is as follows:
1. Sew the prepared test specimen together with a multifibre adjacent fabric, then immerse it in a standard seawater or chlorinated water solution.
2. Place the sample in a specified pressure device and treat it under specified temperature and time conditions (e.g., 37±2°C for 4 hours) to simulate real-use scenarios.
3. After treatment, remove the sample and either air-dry it naturally or use a specified drying method.
The multifibre adjacent fabric includes fibers such as cotton, wool, polyamide, polyester, acrylic, and acetate, allowing evaluation of dye migration across various fiber types.
Assessment is conducted using a grey scale:
1. Colour Change Rating:Evaluates whether the specimen’s colour has changed, ranging from grade 1 (worst) to grade 5 (best).
2. Staining Rating:Assesses the extent of staining on each type of fiber in the multifibre fabric, also rated from grade 1 to 5.
