GB 4806, with the full name National Food Safety Standard - General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Articles, is an important standard issued by the Standardization Administration of China. It serves as a detailed "safety guideline", providing clear specifications and guidance for the safety of food contact materials and articles.
Food contact materials refer to packaging materials and containers for food, including products made of paper, bamboo, wood, metal, enamel, ceramic, plastic, rubber, natural fiber, chemical fiber, glass, etc., used for packaging or containing food or food additives, as well as coatings that directly contact food or food additives.
In accordance with internationally accepted classification methods, food contact materials and utensils are categorized by material into: enamel products, glass products, plastic products, metal products, paper products, wood products, etc.
1. Residual toxic monomers, pyrolysis products and toxic substances generated from aging in plastics; several typical plastic toxic monomers include vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, caprolactam, styrene, BISphenol A, acrylonitrile.
2. Various toxic additives added during plastic product manufacturing, such as phthalate plasticizers.
3. Microbial and dust impurity contamination on the surface of plastic containers.
• Residues of adhesives, solvents and printing inks used in composite packaging bags.
Heavy metal migration test (4% acetic acid), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), zinc (Zn).
Benzidine, naphthylamine, toluenediamine, chloroaniline, phenylnaphthylamine, acrylonitrile, chloroprene, etc.
Heavy metal migration test (4% acetic acid), lead (Pb),
cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), arsenic (As),
antimony (Sb), zinc (Zn).
Pentachlorophenol (PCP), formaldehyde migration, overall migration of organic coatings, arsenic content, lead content, sulfur dioxide content, o-phenylphenol, thiabendazole, biphenyl and imazalil content, etc.
Lead (calculated as Pb), arsenic (calculated as As), fluorescent substances, discoloration test, coliform bacteria, pathogenic bacteria (Shigella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic streptococcus).
Since April 19, 2017, the mandatory GB series standards for food contact material testing in China have been officially implemented. The standards specify testing requirements for specific materials as follows:
