As a professional service provider in the international certification field, China JJR Laboratoryhas a team of senior experts in REACH/SVHC compliance to help enterprises overcome technical barriers in international trade.

What Exactly Is SVHC?

SVHC(Substances of Very High Concern) is the “blacklist” under the EU reach regulation, containing chemical substances that pose serious risks to human health or the environment, such as being carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction, or having persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) properties.

As of July 2025, the list has been updated to 250 entries, with additions twice a year.

Key Features:

① Concentration threshold:If the SVHC content in a product is >0.1% by weight.

② Notification obligation:If annual export volume is ≥1 ton, a declaration must be submitted to ECHA.

Which Products Must Undergo SVHC Testing?

1. High-Risk Industries & Products

1. Electronics & Electrical Appliances:

Circuit boards (lead solder), plastic housings (phthalates), cables (short-chain chlorinated paraffins).

2. Textiles / Footwear:

Dyes (azo dyes), waterproof coatings (perfluorinated compounds, PFCs).

3. Children’s Products:

Toy coatings (DEHP), stationery erasers (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs).

4. Home & Building Materials:

Flooring adhesive (DINP), wallpaper (arsenic compounds).

2. Special Scenarios

① Recycled material products:Recycled plastics/metals may carry legacy contaminants.

② Products in prolonged skin contact:Watch straps, eyeglass frames, etc.

Three Core Values of SVHC Testing

1. EU Market Entry Requirement

Non-compliant products may be detained by customs (in 2023, domestic companies lost over €300 million due to this).

2. Mandatory Procurement Standard for Major Brands

Industry giants such as Apple and Samsung require 100% SVHC test reports across their supply chains.

3. Avoidance of Costly Penalties

Non-compliant companies may face fines of up to 4% of annual turnover.

China JJR Laboratory Testing Solutions

1. Precise Testing Plans

① Screening tests (XRF + GC-MS):Quickly identify high-risk substances.

② Full testing:Covers all 250 SVHC substances, meeting EU audit requirements.

2. Response Strategies

① Material substitution:Access to a REACH-compliant eco-friendly materials database.

② Supply chain management:Establish a raw material SVHC declaration traceability system.

3. Emergency Handling

① Testing lead time:Reports issued within 5 working daysto prevent shipment returns at port.
