The NBTC Certification refers to the regULatory approval managed by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC)of Thailand.
NBTC is a typical government regulatory body with administrative enforcement authority, similar to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China. It oversees both telecommunication products and telecommunication networks.
Since July 1, 2008, the mandatory regulations that were originally applicable only to mobile communication products have been expanded to cover wireless-related products, including telecommunication equipment and terminal devices.
- Class A: Registration
Products must be tested in NBTC-designated laboratories and provide the requiRED technical data to obtain a registration number and certification. Some products may require samples.
- Class B: Approval Certification
The procedure is the same as Class A. However, ce red test reports can be used for certification application via transfer. A registration number and certification are also required. Some conformity assessments may require product samples.
- sdoc: Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity
Certification must be submitted by the applicant’s local representative in Thailand. The representative completes the SDoC form and submits it along with technical documents to NBTC for record-keeping. No product samples are required. (Mainly applicable to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi products.)
1. Certification Attribute: Mandatory
2. Processing Time: 2–4 weeks (depending on product type)
3. Local Representative: Required (a Thai company must hold the certificate)
4. Validity: Permanent
5. Support for Series Models: Not supported (single model only)
Once a product is successfully approved and registered with NBTC, suppliers must affix the NBTC conformity markon the product.
- Class A/B Labels: Must be purchased from NBTC and affixed according to product category requirements.
- SDoC: No labeling requirement.
Starting from June 30, 2025, NBTC will completely cease type certification and import approval for 2G/3G-only devices.
To accelerate the phase-out of outdated networks and promote advanced telecommunications technology, NBTC has issued an official regulation with the following measures:
- No longer issue type approval certificates (Class B) for 2G/3G-only devices.
- No longer allow the import of 2G/3G-only devices.
- Cease authorization and sale of self-labeling for 2G/3G-only devices.
- Devices that support 2G/3G along with 4G/5G(next-generation technologies) can still apply for type certification under normal procedures.
- Existing 2G/3G devices that are already certified and available in the Thai marketmay continue to be sold and used.
This policy adjustment only applies to new products or models imported after the effective date, with the aim of gradually phasing out 2G/3G-only devices, improving network efficiency, and promoting industry technology upgrades.
