Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) is a cheMICal substance widely used in consumer goods, especially in leather, textile products, and electronic electrical products, due to its significant antibacterial and anti-mold properties. However, upon contact with the human body, it can penetrate the skin, causing allergies, pain, dermatitis, erythema, and even leading to breathing difficULties.

Due to the severe risks associated with DMF, the European Union issued Decision 2009/251/EC, implementing an urgent, renewable temporary ban, prohibiting the sale of products containing DMF in the EU market.
On May 15, 2012, the European Union Official Journal (OJ) published Regulation (EU) No 412/2012, amending Annex XVII of the reach regulation, adding Article 61 regarding the restriction of Dimethyl Fumarate. This means that the EU's previous temporary ban on products containing Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) will become a permanent ban.
