This European Standard specifies the safety requirements and testing for the design and manufacture of pedestrian-controlled tractors equipped with rotary cULtivators (with horizontal rotary shafts perpendicular to the direction of machine movement), motor hoes, and motor hoes with drive wheels, as used in agriculture, forestry, landscaping, and gardening (including amenity use).

Scope of EN 709:1997+A2:2009

This European Standard specifies safety requirements and testing methods for the design and construction of:

 

1. Pedestrian-controlled tractors with mounted rotary cultivators, where the cultivator shaft is horizontal and perpendicular to the direction of machine movement

2. Motor hoes

3. Motor hoes with drive wheel(s)

 

These machines are used in agriculture, forestry, landscaping, and gardening (including amenity use). The standard outlines methods for eliminating or reducing risks arising from the use of such equipment. It also specifies the type of safety information manufacturers must provide to ensure safe operation.
