How to get MEID Address

The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is a global 56-bit mobile terminal identification number. This identifier is burned into the terminal and cannot be modified. It can be used for the identification and tracking of mobile devices. Because Electronic Serial Number (ESN) segments are a limited resource and are basically exhausted (with perhaps a small amount of recycled segments remaining), the 56-bit MEID segment was created to replace the 32-bit ESN segment. MEID is mainly assigned to CDMA-standard mobile phones.

Detailed Explanation

The IMEI and MEID numbers in a mobile phone are just like our ID cards in daily life; they are an important basis for identifying a mobile phone's identity. If a mobile phone uses a fake number, network operators can use technical means to shut down the operation of this mobile phone on the network at any time, which will bring huge usage risks to the mobile phone user. The IMEI or MEID number segments used in mobile phones can be legally applied for through relevant institutions such as the Depuhua Test Laboratory.

Additionally, applying for an MEID requires payment. The current price is $8,000 for a 1M range of MEIDs, and an additional fee of $8,000 is required for each additional 1M range of MEID numbers.

MEID numbers are allocated and managed by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).

Currently, there is no universal method for checking the MEID number; it is set independently by each mobile phone manufacturer. You can find the method to check the MEID number by referring to the mobile phone's user manual.

Format

The MEID is identified by 14 hexadecimal characters, and the 15th digit is a check digit, which does not participate in over-the-air transmission.

  • RR: Range A0-FF, assigned officially;

  • XXXXXX: Range 000000-FFFFFF, assigned officially;

  • ZZZZZZ: Range 000000-FFFFFF, the serial number assigned by the manufacturer to each terminal;

  • C/CD: 0-F, check digit.

Method for Modifying the IMEI Serial Number

This operation can only be completed with the help of a software program on a computer. First, you need to make sure your computer is working properly, and then you need to install a small software called "EasyIMEIChanger" on your computer. After that, follow the steps below to operate:

  1. Go to a computer market to choose a connection cable suitable for your mobile phone. Plug one end into the COM port of the PC and the other end into the charging port of the mobile phone.

  2. Then, select the appropriate port in the "selectcomport" (Select COM Port) item of the "EasyIMEIChanger" software.

  3. Select the appropriate model under "SelectModel". It is important to select the AutoDet option under "SelectCableType" and NSE-1 under "Selectsoftware".

  4. The most important step is to enter your desired 15-digit number, and then you are successfully done.

  • Inquiry Method: Dial pad *#06#

  • Recommended Inquiry Software: imeiquery20110902.apk

Method for Modifying the MEID Serial Number (CDMA Series)

Steps:

  1. Use the command *#7284# to set the phone to modem mode.

  2. Unplug and replug the data cable.

  3. Open the DFS software and select the port.

  4. Go to Programming.

  5. MEID: Read - Enter Data - Write.

  6. Restart the device.

  7. Use the command *#7284# to set the phone to PDA mode. Connect to the computer and use the ADB command adb shell getprop to check the local MEID, and then use DFS to write the read MEID into the phone. (First use DFS to write the MEID into the phone, then connect to the computer and use the ADB command adb shell getprop to check the local MEID, and then use DFS to write the read MEID into the phone.) After writing the MEID, the phone cannot make calls because the ESN has changed along with the MEID. At this time, copy the NV data file to the computer, use UltraEdit to edit the four groups of numbers in the first line, write the ESN backward into it, put it back into the phone's EFS directory, and just restart.

  8. After writing the MEID, the phone cannot make calls because the ESN has changed along with the MEID. At this time, use the 91 Mobile Assistant to download the nv_data.bin data file from the EFS directory in the phone to the computer. Use UltraEdit to edit the four groups of numbers in the first line, write the ESN backward into it, then save it and transfer it back to the phone's EFS directory, directly overwriting it. (Copied from the 14th floor/post)

  9. Restart the device.
