JJR Laboratory in China is fULly equipped to conduct comprehensive testing in accordance with iec 60335-2-55:2021 “Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety – Part 2-55: Particular Requirements for Electrical Appliances for Aquariums and Garden Ponds”. We provide global clients with one-stop testing and certification solutions covering every stage from product design and manufacturing to market access.

I. Scope of Applicable Products

This standard applies to electrical appliances intended for household and similar use, with rated voltages not exceeding 250V, specifically for aquariums and garden ponds. The scope includes, but is not limited to:

(A) Aquarium Equipment

1. Lighting: LED aquarium lights, UV sterilizers, submersible spotlights

2. Water Quality Management: Filtration pumps, protein skimmers, water quality monitors

3. Environmental Control: Heaters, temperature controllers, aeration pumps

4. Auxiliary Devices: Automatic feeders, aquarium cleaning robots

(B) Garden Pond Equipment

1. Landscape Devices: Fountain pumps, underwater decorative lights, mist makers

2. Water Circulation: Pond filter pumps, waterfall pumps, drainage pumps

3. Environmental Regulation: Pond heaters, dissolved oxygen sensors, algae control devices

4. Safety Protection: Leakage protection devices, water level controllers

(Here you may insert real product images, such as aquarium heaters, pond fountain pumps, and underwater LED lights to showcase application scenarios.)

II. When Is This Test RequiRED?

(A) Compliance Requirements

1. Export Certifications: Products entering markets such as the EU (requires ce-lvd), the USA (UL/cUL), or Australia (SAA) must comply with IEC 60335 series standards and obtain cb certification or local approval.

2. Domestic Compliance: Manufacturers complying with GB 4706.67 (equivalent to IEC 60335-2-55) may perform gap analysis with international standards via CVC.

3. Market Regulation: Regulatory authorities may require test reports conforming to this standard when launching products on e-commerce platforms or in offline retail channels.

(B) Product Safety & Quality Enhancement

1. Design Validation: During R\&D, testing helps identify risks such as electric shock, overheating, or water ingress early, enabling design optimization.

2. Supply Chain Management: Verifies the consistency of safety performance across components (e.g., pump motors, insulation materials).

3. Client Requirements: High-end clients (e.g., professional aquaculture farms or landscape engineering companies) may require proof of safety levels such as IPX8 waterproof rating.

III. Specific Test Items – Full Coverage of Core Standard Requirements

Testing is based on the general safety standard IEC 60335-1, combined with the particular requirements of Part 2-55. Key focus areas include:

(A) Electrical Shock Protection

1. Protection against electric shock

2. Verification of insulation level for submersible equipment (e.g., double insulation for submersible motors)

3. Touch voltage limit (≤12V AC SELV – Safety Extra Low Voltage)

4. Grounding system effectiveness (≤0.1Ω ground resistance for Class I devices)

5. Insulation performance in humid environments

a. Insulation resistance after damp treatment (≥2MΩ)

b. Dielectric strength test (2,000V for 1 minute to verify insulation durability)

(B) Ingress Protection (Water & Dust)

IPX Rating Tests:

a. Internal aquarium devices: IPX8 (continuous submersion at 1m for 24 hours without water ingress)

b. Pondside equipment: IPX5/IPX6 (protection against water jets / powerful water jets)

c. Spray tests simulate heavy rain or cleaning scenarios to assess enclosure sealing

(C) Mechanical and Environmental Adaptability

1. Mechanical Safety:

Impact resistance test for impellers and pump housings (IK07 level)

Tensile test for connectors (e.g., cable joints must withstand 50N pull force without detachment)

2. Temperature and Overload Protection:

a. Temperature control accuracy for heaters (within ±1℃)

b. Motor stall protection (auto shutdown within 15 seconds)

c. Extreme environment operation test (-20℃ to 50℃ cycles with no performance degradation)

(D) Functional Safety & Reliability

1. Abnormal Condition Testing: Simulates faults such as dry-running pumps or lamp short circuits to verify protection response time (≤0.5 seconds)

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Pre-testing of conducted and radiated emissions to ensure no interference with nearby electronics

3. Life Cycle Testing:

Pumps: 5,000 hours of continuous operation with no leakage

Lighting devices: 100,000 switch cycles with no contact failure
