INMETRO Certification for Power Cord Plug Products

INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality) is a Brazilian government agency responsible for managing and promoting metrology, standardization, and technological research in the country. Its main responsibilities include implementing and supervising technical regULations, measurement units, and standardization systems to ensure that products and services comply with quality and safety standards. This helps protect consumer rights and fosters both domestic and international trade.

What is INMETRO Certification?

INMETRO certification refers to the process of evaluating and certifying products through the INMETRO system to confirm compliance with Brazilian national and international standards. This certification is not only a legal requirement under Brazilian regulations but also a mandatory prerequisite for entering the Brazilian market.

Currently, there are several recognized INMETRO certification bodies, including TÜV Rheinland, DEKRA, Bureau Veritas (BV), and NCC, among others.

Requirements for Power Cord Plug Products

When exporting a complete power cord plug product for INMETRO certification, the cable component only requires a valid cb certificate and test report.

Power plugs are classified into two-pin and three-pin types. Depending on the cable specification, the rated current of the plug also varies—for example: 2.5A, 10A, 12A, 16A, and 20A. Cable sizes typically range from 0.5 mm² to 2.5 mm². Different rated currents correspond to different pin dimensions.

In general, the scope of application involves four separate certificates. However, some certification bodies may issue individual certificates based on the rated current.
