What is the ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC Test Standard?

The ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC (Ships in Own Container) test standard is a protocol that Amazon and its suppliers must follow within Amazon’s operational environment.

The purpose of this test is to ensure that products from suppliers can arrive safely at consumers’ hands without requiring additional Amazon-provided packaging.

Packaging that meets this SIOC standard will be processed and stoRED at Amazon fULfillment centers (FCs), and ultimately delivered to end customers via parcel delivery systems or freight transportation.

ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC Test Contents

The main test items include:

- Environmental preconditioning tests

- Environmental conditioning tests

- Compression test

- Drop test

- Stacking vibration test

- Random vibration test

- Horizontal compression (clamp) test

- Rotational drop test

- Inclined impact test

ISTA 6-Amazon.com-SIOC Test Types

The ISTA Project 6-Amazon.com-SIOC test series includes eight test types, categorized from Type A to Type H according to product specifications:

ISTA 6-Amazon Type A

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped through parcel delivery systems

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≤ 23 kg (50 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type B

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped through parcel delivery systems

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: 23–43 kg (50–100 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type C

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped through parcel delivery systems

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≥ 45 kg (100 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type D

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped via Less-than-Truckload (LTL) transportation

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≤ 45 kg (100 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type E

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped via LTL transportation

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≥ 43 kg (100 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type F

1. Shipping Method: Individually packaged products shipped via LTL transportation

2. Handling Method: Palletized handling

3. Sample Weight: N/A

ISTA 6-Amazon Type G

1. Shipping Method: Parcel delivery for TVs/monitors

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≤ 68 kg (150 lb)

ISTA 6-Amazon Type H

1. Shipping Method: LTL delivery for TVs/monitors

2. Handling Method: Standard handling

3. Sample Weight: ≤ 68 kg (150 lb)
