The EN 13899standard is the European Union’s mandatory safety requirement for roller skates (primarily quad skates). Its core purpose is to ensure safe product use. The key points are as follows:

Applicable Product Scope

- Included:

- Quad roller skates designed for users weighing 20–100 kg.

- Excluded:

- Inline skates (coveRED by EN 13843).

- Children’s skates for users under 20 kg(considered toys, covered by EN 71-1).

 

Mandatory Safety Tests

1. Structural Inspection

- No sharp edges or corners.

- Screws and frames must be firmly fixed.

- Laces/buckles must not loosen easily.

 

2. Wheel Grip Test

- Standard skates (Class A): Coefficient of friction ≥ 0.3

- Youth/lightweight skates (Class B): Coefficient of friction ≥ 0.2

 

3. Impact Resistance Test

- Must withstand side impacts without structural failure.

- No chassis cracking after drop tests.

 

4. Durability Test

- SimULated long-term use: bearings and axles must not loosen or fail.

 

5. Additional Requirements

- Brake device must be reliable (must not break under accidental pressure).

- Functional performance must remain normal under -20℃ coldand high temperatures.

 

Product Classification

- Class A:Adult/general models (20–100 kg).

- Class B:Youth models (20–60 kg, foot length ≤ 260 mm).

 

Certification Practical Requirements

- Test samples:At least 3 pairsof the same model.

- Testing period:Approx. 2 weeks.

- Technical documentation:

- Application form, product information.

- Labels and instructions:

- Product must bear CE mark, EN 13899 standard number, manufacturer, model, and load rating (Class A/B).

- Manual must include:

 - Applicable weight range

 - Warning: “Protective gear must be worn”

 - Installation diagrams and maintenance instructions

 

Common Pitfalls

- Wrong standard applied:Inline skates must follow EN 13843, not EN 13899.

- Label omissions:Missing Class A/B or weight range may result in customs detention.

- Missing warnings in manual:Lack of protective gear warnings can lead to product recalls.
