The measurement of electromagnetic radiation is a key component in electromagnetic compatibility technology, as it can evaluate whether an equipment or system generates excessive electromagnetic radiation during operation, which could interfere with other devices or affect human health. Therefore, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing plays an important role in ensuring the quality and safety of electronic products. China JJR Laboratory provides electromagnetic compatibility testing services.

Classification of EMC

Simply put, EMC is mainly divided into two aspects:

  • The ability to affect the surrounding electromagnetic environment: namely EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference).

  • The ability to resist the surrounding electromagnetic environment: namely EMS (ElectroMagnetic Susceptibility / Immunity).

EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference)

EMI refers to the requirement that an equipment or system situated in a certain environment should not generate electromagnetic energy exceeding the limits required by corresponding standards during normal operation. The corresponding test items vary depending on the product type and standard, mainly including the following tests:

  • Radiated Emission (RE)

  • Conducted Emission (CE)

  • Harmonic Current (Harmonic)

  • Voltage Fluctuations and Flicker (Flicker)

EMS (ElectroMagnetic Susceptibility / Immunity)

EMS refers to the requirement that an equipment or system situated in a certain environment can withstand electromagnetic energy interference within the range specified by corresponding standards during normal operation. The corresponding test items also vary depending on the product type and standard, mainly including the following tests:

  • Electrostatic Discharge Immunity (ESD)

  • Radiated Susceptibility (RS)

  • Electrical Fast Transient/Burst Immunity (EFT)

  • Surge Immunity (SURGE)

  • Immunity to Conducted Disturbances, Induced by Radio-Frequency Fields (CS)

  • Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity (PFM)

  • Voltage Dips, Short Interruptions, and Voltage Variations Immunity (DIP)
