Laser Pointer Compliance in the US and Canada

1. What is a Laser Pointer?

It is typically a pen-like pointing device (usually battery-powered) containing a small diode laser device that can emit a strong beam of light. Handheld laser pet toys and 303s are high-power variants of laser pointers. In most jurisdictions, the power output is restricted and should not exceed 5 mW.

2. Applicable Laws, Regulations, and Standards

• US Marketplace: One of the following two:

• 21 cfr 1040.10 (Performance Standards for Light-Emitting Products - Laser Products)

• iec 60825-1 (Safety of Laser Products - Part 1: Equipment Classification and Requirements)

• Canadian Marketplace:

• CAN/CSA E60825-1 (Safety of Laser Products - Part 1: Equipment Classification and Requirements)

3. Product Detail Page

• The product detail page must include: model number, part number or product number, and manufacturer or brand name.

4. Compliance Information

You must work with a third-party Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) service provider to test the product or verify existing testing documents.

Documents:

• A test report issued by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory or an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory within the last 12 months, proving that the product complies with the aforementioned regulations, standards, and requirements. The document must prove that the product as a whole complies with the requirements, not just its components.

• It can be an official email from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), or an acknowledgment letter containing the product accession number and model number. (This item applies only to the US marketplace)

Note: All testing documents provided to Amazon must show a result of "Pass" or "Not Applicable". If the results show as "Fail", "Non-compliant", "Does not comply", or are left blank, they will not be accepted.
