What are the IEC60884 testing items for plugs and sockets? The IEC60884 standard is an international standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) concerning plugs, sockets, and plug connectors. This standard covers aspects such as the design, dimensions, and performance requirements of electrical device connectors and plugs and sockets. The IEC60884 standard aims to ensure the safety and interoperability of electrical equipment for global use.

The IEC 60884 standard imposes strict requirements on the design and manufacture of plugs and sockets, including rated voltage, rated current, insULation performance, heat resistance, grounding methods, etc. It also specifies appearance requirements, such as markings, colors, and materials.

What is the significance of the IEC 60884 standard?

The IEC 60884 standard aims to promote international trade and cooperation, enabling electrical equipment produced in different regions to be compatible with each other under safe and reliable conditions. Adhering to the IEC 60884 standard helps manufacturers ensure their products meet internationally recognized safety standards, enhancing their competitiveness and cREDibility.

Overall, the IEC 60884 standard is widely applied globally and plays an important role in ensuring the safety and reliability of plugs, sockets, and connectors. Manufacturers, designers, and users should understand and comply with this standard to ensure the safety and performance of electrical equipment.

What is the scope of the IEC 60884 standard?

1. The standard applies to plugs and fixed or portable sockets with or without grounding contacts, intended for outdoor or indoor use, household and similar purposes, for AC only, with a rated voltage above 50V but not exceeding 440V, and a rated current not exceeding 32A.

2. For fixed sockets with screwless terminals, the maximum rated current is 16A.

3. The standard does not include requirements for installation boxes, only the requirements for testing the sockets mentioned. (General requirements for installation boxes are found in IEC 60670).

4. The standard applies to plugs and portable sockets combined with cord assemblies and extension cord assemblies, and plugs and sockets that are part of an appliance.

What products are not covered by the IEC 60884 standard?

1. Plugs, sockets, and couplers for industrial use.

2. Appliance couplers.

3. Plugs and fixed or portable sockets for ELV.

4. Fixed sockets used in conjunction with fuses, automatic switches, etc. (If the indicator light on the socket complies with relevant standards, it applies to sockets with indicator lights).

5. Note: The IEC 60884 standard requires plugs and fixed or portable sockets to be suitable for use in ambient temperatures typically not exceeding 25°C, occasionally REACHing 35°C. Special structures may be required for specific conditions such as on ships, vehicles, and similar places, as well as hazardous locations (e.g., where explosions may occur).

What are the IEC 60884 testing items?

1. Inspection of marks and dimensions.

2. Protection against electric shock and grounding measures.

3. Structure of terminals, terminal connections, and fixed sockets.

4. Structure of plugs and portable sockets.

5. Aging resistance, protection, and moisture resistance of the enclosure.

6. Insulation resistance and electrical strength, grounding contact operation.

7. Temperature rise, breaking capacity, and normal operation.

8. Withdrawal force for plugs, flexible cables, and their connections.

9. Mechanical strength, heat resistance, screws, current-carrying parts, and their connections.

10. Creepage distances, clearances, and distance of penetration sealing.

11. Abnormal heat resistance, fire resistance, and leakage resistance of insulating materials.

12. Additional tests for anti-rust bolts with insulating sheaths.

China JJR Laboratory is an IEC 17025 laboratory that provides IEC60884 testing services for plugs and sockets. Located in China, our testing fees are lower, helping enterprises save 20% on certification testing costs.
