Recently, Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) officially released the Guidelines for Certification and Labeling of Various Batteries and Energy Storage Devices, providing a clear technical pathway for relevant products to enter the Malaysian market.
Currently, this certification system remains voluntary and is not a mandatory requirement.

SIRIM Malaysia offers two main certification pathways for batteries, allowing enterprises to make flexible choices based on their export strategies.
Applicable to enterprises with low-frequency export needs. The certification process is relatively simple. However, samples of each batch of goods must be sent to Malaysia for testing and affixed with specific labels.
Suitable for clients planning long-term, mULti-batch exports. A factory audit is requiRED in the first year, which entails a relatively high initial investment. Nevertheless, within the one-year validity period of the certificate, subsequent batches do not need to be resubmitted for testing—greatly improving customs clearance efficiency and flexibility, and proving to be more cost-effective and convenient in the long run.

◉ Industrial and Energy Storage Batteries
IEC 62619, and/or IEC 63056
◉ Stationary Vented Energy Storage Batteries
IEC 60896-11
◉ Stationary Valve-Regulated Energy Storage Batteries
IEC 60896-21 and IEC 60896-22
◉ Starter Batteries
• Starter batteries for passenger vehicles and commercial/industrial vehicles:
MS 45, IEC 60095-1, or JIS D 5301
• Starter batteries for motorcycles:
IEC 60095-7, or JIS D 5302

1. Prepare Technical Documents
This is the foundation of certification, including detailed product information, importer data, power of attorney, application form, as well as the crucial complete cb test report and un 38.3 test report.
2. Select Certification Type
Determine whether to apply for Type 1B Batch Certificate or Type 5 PCS Certificate based on your export plan.
3. Execute the Certification Process
◉ If Type 1B is selected, arrange for sample delivery to Malaysia for testing for each batch and obtain the certificate for that specific batch.
◉ If Type 5 is selected, undergo the factory audit arranged by SIRIM; upon passing the audit, a certificate with a one-year validity period will be issued.
