Update time : 2025-02-09

Heaters refer to devices used for heating purposes. Based on different heating media and principles, heating equipment can be broadly classified into the following categories: gas heating equipment, electric heating equipment, boiler heating equipment, and electric wall-hung boilers.

However, in general, products of this type must undergo ul 1278 testing to be listed on Amazon US and TEMU platforms.

UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) is a globally recognized independent third-party safety certification organization. UL 1278 is the safety standard specifically for electric heaters, ensuring that these devices meet appropriate safety requirements before being sold on platforms like Amazon.

Key Points on UL 1278 Testing for Small Heaters

Purpose:

To evaluate the electrical safety performance of heaters and confirm compliance with the UL 1278 standard, ensuring they can be sold on Amazon.

Test Contents:

- Structural Inspection: Examination of the heater’s design, construction, and materials to ensure they can safely withstand normal use and potential misuse conditions.

- Electrical Strength Test: Assessment of the insulation materials and protective measures to determine their performance under high voltage or fault conditions.

- Abnormal Operation Test: Simulation of abnormal conditions such as overheating, overload, and short circuits to verify the effectiveness of the heater’s safety system.

- Temperature Test: Measurement of the heater’s surface temperature during normal and abnormal operation to ensure compliance with UL standards.

- Water Resistance Test: Evaluation of the heater’s performance when exposed to accidental water splashes to confirm sufficient waterproofing capability.

Required Documentation for Testing:

- Completed application form (provided by the laboratory)

- Product specification sheet

- Samples Required: 2 units

- Testing Duration: 1–2 weeks

Important Notes:

- ul test reports are only used for e-commerce platform reviews and cannot be used for customs clearance or to display the UL trademark.

- To use the UL mark, a UL certificate must be obtained.

- The UL 1278 test report is not a certification but rather a document proving to the platform that the heater complies with UL 1278 standards.

- If your product lacks a UL 1278 test report, it cannot be sold on Amazon.
