Update time : 2025-01-03

On September 1, 2020, UL officially released UL8802, a set of evaluation standards for germicidal systems. Based on the general lighting standard UL1598, UL8802 integrates testing methods and requirements for labels and manuals from IEC 62471 and IEC/TR 62471-2, providing a standard framework for North American certification of ultraviolet (UV) germicidal lamps.

UL8802 serves as the safety standard requiRED by Amazon US for UV disinfection lamps. This standard covers safety requirements in electrical, mechanical, performance, and labeling aspects for UV disinfection lamps. Achieving UL8802 certification ensures that your product complies with Amazon US's safety standards, facilitating smooth listing and sales on the platform.

Special Requirements under UL8802

UL8802 includes several specific requirements for UV germicidal lamps, such as photobiological safety evaluation, ozone evaluation, protective measures assessment, and labeling requirements. For instance:

- Photobiological Safety Evaluation: Testing is conducted at a distance of 200mm, following IEC 62471 methods.

- Ozone Evaluation: For germicidal lamps emitting wavelengths below 250nm, specific ozone testing standards must be met.

- Protective Measures Assessment: UV germicidal lamps must incorporate two or more independent electrical or mechanical safety mechanisms to minimize the risk of excessive UV radiation exposure.
