What certifications are required in Indonesia?

SNI Certification:

The Indonesian National Standard certification is set by the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) to ensure product safety, quality, and performance in the Indonesian market. It is essential for legally selling electronic products in Indonesia.

Applicable Standards:

- Electrical Safety Standards: Includes SNI IEC 60950 (similar to IEC 60950 for IT equipment) and SNI iec 60335 (similar to IEC 60335 for household appliances).

- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Standards: SNI IEC 61000 regulates radiation and interference requirements for electrical equipment.

- Energy Efficiency and Environmental Standards: SNI 6399 covers energy efficiency, and SNI 7060 addresses restrictions on hazardous substances in electronic products.

Testing Requirements: Tests include electrical safety (e.g., insulation, voltage withstand, leakage current), mechanical safety (e.g., structural stability), EMC tests (e.g., radiation, interference), and energy efficiency/environmental tests (e.g., efficiency and materials testing).

Certification Process: Prepare product manuals, design and manufacturing documents, and test reports. Choose a BSN-authorized testing lab, apply to a BSN-recognized certification body, and receive certification after passing testing and review.

POSTEL Certification:

Certification Process: Manufacturers (including overseas) first apply for Certificate A. After receiving Certificate A, local representatives/importers/distributors can apply for Certificate B. Only with Certificate B can the products be cleared through customs.

SDPPI Certification:

Managed by the Directorate General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), this certification ensures that radio and telecom devices meet Indonesian technical standards.

Applicable Products: Products with wireless functions (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) require this certification, while wired-only products (e.g., HDMI, VGA) may not.

Testing Requirements: Radio frequency (RF) testing is required to ensure compliance with frequency and emission standards. EMC and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing may also be required for wireless devices to assess exposure risks to electromagnetic fields.

K3L Certification:

This refers to security, safety, health, and environmental certifications. Domestically produced or imported electronic products related to these areas must obtain a K3L certification number before being sold.

Certification Process: After product testing, importers must submit an application through the government's electronic licensing system to obtain the K3L number. The number must be displayed on packaging and labels before sale. The K3L certification number is valid for five years and must be renewed with updated product registration data every five years.
