What is Thailand Market TISI Certification?

TISIstands for Thailand Industrial Standards Institute, Ministry of Industry. It is an industrial standards association established in 1969 under the Thai Ministry of Industry.

 

TISI’s mission is to implement national standardization to promote, support, and develop acceptable domestic product quality; enhance the competitiveness of Thai industries in the global market; protect the environment; ensure fairness, life and property safety for consumers; and supervise conformity assessment bodies.

 

All products exported to Thailand are requiRED to comply with TIS certification standards.

TISI certification is divided into mandatory certificationand voluntary certification.

Certification Scope

Mandatory certification covers a wide range of products, including:

- CheMICal products

- Plastic products

- Rubber products

- Coatings and insULating paints

- Machinery and equipment

- Vehicles and components

- Fire protection products (e.g., fire extinguishers)

- Electrical products

- Medical products

- Consumer goods

- Cement

- Tiles

- Building materials

 

Mandatory Certification Categories for Electrical & Electronic Products (23 categories):

1. Plugs and sockets with rated voltage not exceeding 250V

2. Electric irons – Safety requirements

3. Switches for household appliances and fixed installation – General requirements

4. Residual Current Operated Circuit Breakers with Overcurrent Protection (RCBOS) for household and similar uses

5. Electric fans – Safety requirements

6. Rice cookers – Safety requirements

7. Tumble dryers – Safety requirements

8. Household washing machines – Energy efficiency requirements

9. Household washing machines – Safety requirements

10. Electric frying pans – Safety requirements

11. Grills, toasters, and similar portable kitchen appliances – Safety requirements

12. Instant water heaters – Safety requirements

13. Microwave ovens – Safety requirements

14. Luminaires – Limits of radio disturbance

15. Skin and hair care appliances – Safety requirements

16. Electric kettles – Safety requirements

17. Batteries

18. Cord sets

19. Household massagers – Specific requirements

20. Air purifiers – Specific requirements

21. High-pressure cleaners or steam cleaners – Specific requirements

22. Audio-visual, IT/AV products – Part 1: Safety requirements

23. Commercial deep fryers – Specific requirements

 

TISI Certification Process

Core elements of the certification process:

1. The applicant must be a Thai company.

2. TISI is only the certification body; testing is conducted in TISI-authorized laboratories.

3. Product testing must be carried out in Thai laboratories(no overseas labs are accepted).

4. Factory auditsare conducted in China by TISI-appointed Thai auditors.

5. TISI certificates remain valid, subject to ongoing supervision and inspections.

 

Certification timeline:Approximately 3 months.

 

Factory Audit Focus:

- Incoming materials

- In-process and final inspections

- Non-conforming product control

- Corrective and preventive actions

- Customer complaint handling

- Measuring and testing equipment control

 

Typically, one auditor will be assigned for on-site assessment.

1. Guidance in completing TISI application documents.

2. Pre-testing products according to TISI standards.

3. Supporting factories in establishing quality systems per TISI audit requirements and providing audit accompaniment.
