What is the Amazon USA UL60950-1 Test Report?

Transition to IEC/UL/EN 62368

EU and U.S. Requirements

1. The European Unionofficially withdrew EN 60065 and en 60950-1 on June 20, 2019. After that date, audio-visual and IT products sold in Europe can only apply for EN 62368-1certification.

2. Similarly, UL (United States)announced that starting from June 20, 2019, all new UL applications for audio, video, IT, and communication products must apply for ul 62368-1.

3. Any significant modification to existing products—such as primary circuit changes—also requires upgrading to UL 62368-1.

About iec 62368-1

1. IEC 62368-1 is the new hazard-based safety standardfor audio/video, IT, and communication technology equipment (AV/ICT).

2. First published in January 2010, it was intended to replace IEC 60065 (audio/video equipment safety) and iec 60950-1 (information processing, office, and telecom equipment safety).

3. IEC 62368-1 retains many familiar elements from IEC 60950-1, allowing proven safe requirements from 60950-1 to be used as performance-based alternatives in 62368-1.

Although Canada and the U.S. initially adopted CSA/UL 62368-1, some EU member states required further clarifications. Eventually, the 2nd edition of EN 62368-1was approved in Europe, with only two countries opposing.

The CENELEC CLC/TC108X technical committeealigned the transition dates with IEC’s recommendation, setting 2019 as the withdrawal date (DOW)for EN 60065 and EN 60950.

For manufacturers exporting AV and ICT products to Europe, these dates were crucial. To demonstrate compliance with EU directives, products had to meet EN 62368-1 before the DOW. Manufacturers with long-term export plans or large production orders had to make strategic decisions as early as 2016 on whether to update to EN 60950-1 amendments or move directly to EN 62368-1.
