What is the UL 1598 Test Report for Lighting Fixtures?

Views :
Update time : 2025-11-04

The ul 1598 standard is a cost standard that combines UL 1570 for fluorescent fixed lighting, UL 1571 for incandescent fixed lighting, and UL 1572 for high-intensity discharge fixed lighting fixtures. It is coordinated with CSA C22.2 NO.250.0-00. This standard primarily applies to permanently wiRED lighting fixtures that do not fall under other special lighting standards, including but not limited to recessed lights, wall lights, ceiling lights, street lights, and fixed LED fixtures. These fixtures are typically installed in non-hazardous areas and on branch circuits with voltages not exceeding 600V.

The UL 1598 standard is a safety performance testing standard for fixed lighting fixtures. When selling fixed lighting products on platforms like Amazon or Temu in the U.S. market, it is generally required to obtain a UL 1598 safety test report. The purpose of this report is to ensure that the products comply with relevant U.S. safety standards. The test report must be issued by an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory after the product passes the required tests.

The UL 1598 test report covers several aspects of safety performance, including but not limited to the following tests:

- Enclosure Strength Test: Evaluates the strength and impact resistance of the lighting fixture's enclosure.

- Leakage Current Test: Checks for any leakage current from the fixture's enclosure, especially for fixtures with accessible metal parts.

- Leakage Current Test After Humidity Exposure: Tests leakage current under conditions of high humidity.

- Input Test: Verifies that the fixture's input voltage and current meet the required specifications.

- Normal Temperature Test: Measures the temperature of various parts of the fixture under normal operating conditions to ensure they stay within safe limits.

- Insulation Withstand Voltage Test: Conducts high-voltage testing on the fixture to check its insulation performance.

- Drop Test: Simulates potential drops that may occur during transport or installation to check the fixture’s structural integrity.

- Plastic Material Stress Relief Test: For lighting fixtures made with plastic materials, this test checks their performance under stress.

- Pressure Test (Snap-fit Structure): For fixtures with snap-fit structures, this test checks the strength and stability of the connections.

- Abnormal Half-Wave Dimming Test/Half-Wave Dimming Test: Checks the fixture’s performance under abnormal or specific dimming conditions.

- Moisture Condition Test (For Fixtures with Accessible Metal Parts): Tests the fixture in a damp environment to check for potential leakage or short circuits.

- Rain Test (Wet Location Only): For fixtures suitable for wet environments, this test simulates rain exposure to check waterproofing performance.
